Senior Highways Site Engineer (Structures)

Rate: -400 - -500 per day (PAYE Only)

Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Highways Site Engineer to lead engineering control, setting out management, and quality assurance for a major highway scheme in Suffolk. This is a secure, ultra-long-term contract package offering 80 weeks of continuous work focusing on complex structural concrete elements.
You will serve as a technical lead on the ground for your section, managing junior engineers, guiding site operations, and ensuring all civil engineering works are executed precisely to National Highways specifications, design drawings, and strict tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Setting Out: Oversee complex setting out and engineering controls for heavy highway infrastructure, including deep drainage, attenuation tanks, culverts, and structural concrete/retaining elements.
Quality Assurance (QA) Management: Establish, manage, and sign off on Inspection Test Plans (ITPs). Conduct pre-pour inspections, review check sheets, and ensure comprehensive As-Built surveys are accurately completed.
Technical Interface & RFIs: Interrogate complex highway drawings, structural schedules, and digital models. Proactively identify design discrepancies and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to the design team.
Team & Site Coordination: Mentor site engineers, manage engineering resources, and work closely with the Works Manager, Section Agent, and groundworks gangs to keep delivery moving smoothly on the critical path.
Requirements
Highways & Civils Experience: Proven track record working as a Senior Engineer (or established Site Engineer ready to step up) on live highway infrastructure, with specific experience in deep drainage and highway structures.
Equipment & Technical Proficiency: Fully competent with modern robotic total stations (Leica/Trimble) and GPS kit for setting out and verification on linear infrastructure.
Education: HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering.
Certifications: Valid CSCS card. Additional tickets such as SSSTS/SMSTS, Temporary Works, or First Aid are highly desirable.

Location: Suffolk (Highway site-based).
Payment Model: Strictly PAYE only.
Timeline: Immediate mobilization with 80 weeks of secured contract work.
