About the business unitThe Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in regional offices across the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors: Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.
Overview of roleAs a Senior Engineering Geologist you will be a key member of our growing Ground Engineering team within the Buildings Unit. You will have the opportunity to deliver exciting projects across the UK, Ireland and occasionally overseas while working with a talented team of ground engineers. You will broaden your experience in the Buildings market and work with public and private sector clients on rewarding projects across defence, health, education, transportation, maritime, water and energy. The role is varied and offers opportunities for personal and career development. You will be a key member of geotechnical project teams and be responsible for undertaking and managing the following tasks:
Desk studies
Ground investigation design, specification, management
GI supervision
Interpretation of ground investigation data and production of ground models
GIRs and ground parameter assessment
Budgeting and cost control
Training and mentoring of graduate geologists
The role will be primarily office-based; however, flexibility is required to attend site visits, client meetings, and GI site supervision as projects require.
Candidate specificationEssential Criteria
BSc/MSc in Engineering Geology
Chartered Geologist (or equivalent), or near chartered
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents
Strong interpersonal skills, able to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and organise workload to meet project timescales
Candidates should be willing to travel within the UK and Ireland
Desirable Criteria
Experience of delivering Ground Investigations and GIRs
Experience using relevant industry software packages
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work both autonomously and in a team
Ability to direct and deliver multiple concurrent projects or one large project on time and within budget
Some experience in geotechnical design including ground improvement, slope stability analysis, seepage analysis, settlement assessment and foundation design
Experience guiding and nurturing engineers in their technical development
