Senior Electrical Distribution Technician

We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Distribution Technician. Based at our Capenhurst Site, you’ll ensure that plant, infrastructure, services and facilities are performing to the required standard, whilst ensuring the successful delivery of the Maintenance Plan and supporting the delivery of the group enrichment plan. The Maintenance Team strives toward a culture of continuous improvement whilst operating in an environment that complies with all health, safety, security and regulatory requirements.
The delivery of the maintenance plan and the reliable control and configuration of the electrical distribution network requires a level of authorisation in which associated switching activities can be completed. A suitably qualified and experienced person is appointed, in writing by the Senior Authorised Person (Electrical) (SAPe) or UUK Deputy Senior Authorised Person (Electrical), to be responsible for the practical implementation of the UUK Electrical Safety Rules and Procedures and to carry out certain duties specific to areas or plants as specified on a certificate of appointment.

What you’ll do:
• Ensure UUK Electrical Safety Rules and Procedures are adhered to
• Act as duty AP to ensure activities on the electrical distribution network do not conflict and site supplies are maintained
• Maintain the “Live” electrical distribution log and suite of safety document used by the team
• Advise other departments by sharing knowledge to confirm work is compliant with Electrical Safety Rules
• Control and issue keys / access permits for access into HV/LV substations and switch-rooms
• Confirm all operations are completed according to UUK Electrical Safety Rules
• Confirm all operations are sufficiently recorded and safety documentation is appropriated stored
• Documentation produced as a result from a task (certificates, reports) to be archived correctly
• Reports are raised for any events witnessed, immediate action taken and inputted into the ReAct system.
• Prepare, issue and cancel appropriate documentation
• Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements to ensure they are suitable for the proposed work
• Permits, drawings and equipment are suitable and sufficient for the proposed work
• Carry out audits, inspections and testing of equipment and cables
• Pre-task assessments and Permits or Work Orders in place
• Review test results gained during maintenance and if needed, seek advice from Engineers regarding required remedial action
What do you need to thrive in this role?
• In-depth knowledge of the electrical distribution system
• Broad knowledge of various types of electrical distribution switchgear
• Diesel Generator control and protection systems
• Understanding of UPS function and operation
• Test and inspection of earthing systems
• Electrical Distribution system protection principles and associated protection relays/devices
• Developed technical, planning and communications skills
• Proficient in the use of site computer systems and applications as appropriate for the role (e.g. Microsoft word, SAP, email)
• Confident in enforcing and communicating Site Electrical Safety rules
