Are you an experienced Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer looking to take on a senior role in a cutting-edge technology environment?
We are seeking a Senior ECI Engineer to join our high-tech engineering team in Somerset. Reporting to the Lead Controls Engineer, this is a pivotal role where you will take projects from concept through to customer commissioning and field trials, ensuring delivery on time, to specification, and within budget.
This position offers the opportunity to work at the core of product development, applying best-practice engineering to solve complex challenges, influence technical direction, and help shape future technology.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior ECI Engineer, you will:
- Drive product development from concept to release, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, directives, and cost targets.
- Provide clarity of work packages and resolve technical challenges within the ECI domain, determining and delivering the best solutions.
- Take ownership of system and subsystem design, identifying risks and mitigation strategies, and ensuring modularity and standardisation for future reuse.
- Lead safety and type testing activities, reviewing, and approving compliance documentation.
- Contribute to project planning, prioritising work, tracking progress, and proactively mitigating potential delays.
- Provide technical expertise to support factory builds, field trials, and customer issues.
- Mentor and coach engineers at varying levels, fostering a culture of learning and development.
- Promote and embed best-practice ECI engineering, championing new technologies to enhance product capability and performance.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, test documentation, manuals, and service instructions.
- Create simulations and supporting documentation for product software validation and release.
Qualifications & Experience
- HND (or equivalent) or degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in controls and software engineering in relevant industries.
- Strong practical knowledge of PLC programming, HMI programming, VB.net (or similar)
- Experience creating technical documentation, managing software configuration tools, and interpreting P&IDs and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with EN compliance and safety standards and industry standards
- Proven ability to deliver in regulated, compliance-driven environments
Desirable experience includes:
- PLC hardware selection, software test environments, simulation tools, troubleshooting, or web development (HTML5, JavaScript, ASP).
