Role: Senior EC&I Engineer
Location: Bolton
Salary: -4559k (Depending on Experience)
We are seeking a skilled EC&I (Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation)-Engineer to join our clients team, specialising in the design, installation, and maintenance of advanced automatic door and access systems.
The successful candidate will work on a wide range of systems, from pedestrian doors to oversized industrial and safety-critical doors used in nuclear, defence, transport, and high-hazard facilities. This role requires technical expertise in electrical, control, and safety systems, along with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead multi-departmental integration to define project scope and support Functional Design Specifications.
- Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing systems and verify modification requirements.
- Design control systems, including wiring schematics, panel assemblies, and cable schedules.
- Analyse and verify Performance Levels (PL) of safety-related parts of control systems using SISTEMA.
- Produce EC&I drawings, documentation, and calculations in compliance with standards.
- Provide technical support to site teams, including fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Review and verify EC&I drawings and documentation produced by other engineers.
- Ensure adherence to electrical and safety regulations and company processes.
- Contribute to Non-Conformance Report (NCR) resolution and raise NCRs when necessary.
- Maintain strong collaboration with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge transfer, and innovative design solutions.
- Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
- Proven experience with automated doors, access systems, or similar electro-mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, control circuits, and fault-finding.
- Knowledge of UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and Machinery Directive principles.
- Familiarity with relevant standards (BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS ISO (phone number removed) & 2, BS EN 60204, BS EN 7671).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD 2D / Inventor 3D).
- Ability to independently design compliant EC&I systems and produce associated documentation.
- Experience generating hand and software-based calculations.
- Understanding of PLC software packages is advantageous.
- Strong focus on quality, output, and team motivation.
- Experience with industrial and powered door systems, including roller shutters, sectional doors, and sliding doors.
- ECS/CSCS card and SC Clearance eligibility.
- Experience with safety-critical systems in nuclear, defence, or heavy industry environments.
- Advanced knowledge of standards such as BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS EN ISO 13849, and BS EN 60204.
- Experience using SISTEMA for PL calculations.
- Understanding of VFDs, safety PLCs, interlock systems, and emergency release mechanisms.
