Senior Design Engineer

The Company

A well-established precision engineering business is looking to recruit a Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-specification products within a technically demanding environment, supporting both new product development and customer-driven design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret customer specifications and translate them into engineered design solutions

Produce 3D models, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacture

Design and develop new products using 3D CAD

Carry out engineering calculations and document findings clearly

Perform FEA analysis where required to validate designs

Analyse and document test data to ensure compliance with specifications

Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards (API, ISO, PED, ASME VIII)

Apply Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles

Support the transition of new products into production

Check drawings and BOMs for accuracy and completeness

Contribute to continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives

Act as a technical point of contact internally and occasionally with customers

Mentor junior engineers and support wider engineering activities

Participate in meetings across departments and occasionally attend customer sites

Support overall engineering strategy and departmental development

The Candidate

Degree or recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering

Strong experience using 3D CAD for design and drafting

Experience in concept and detailed design within an engineering environment

Experience with FEA analysis and engineering calculations

Familiar with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

Experience using MRP/ERP systems to generate BOMs

Knowledge of quality management systems

Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and analytical approach

Able to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines

Confident communicator, able to work independently and within a team
