OverviewJob purpose: the role would manage legal support for the debt recovery function in NextGear Capital, including corporate insolvencies, personal bankruptcies, settlements, and litigation. The role would work with external counsel as needed and advise on other legal matters for NextGear on an ad hoc basis.

Responsibilities

Manage legal support for the debt recovery function in NextGear Capital, including corporate insolvencies, personal bankruptcies, settlements, and litigation.

Advise on other legal matters for NextGear on an ad hoc basis.

Instruct external counsel on high value litigation and manage external law firm relationships and spend.

Draft and issue notices of contract termination to trigger legal rights for vehicle uplifts; draft statutory demands, bankruptcy petitions, and other insolvency-related documents.

Negotiate settlements and indulgences with customers and guarantors; negotiate and draft commercial agreements with partners and suppliers.

Register security interests on property with HMLR.

Advise the NextGear Senior Leadership Team on legal risk; provide budget management of external counsel where matters cannot be dealt with internally.

Operate within the UK and Republic of Ireland as the global/regional function.

Qualifications

Degree in law or non-law degree with graduate diploma in law (GDL) or other equivalent.

Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales with 7+ years PQE.

Essential: experience advising on debt recovery, corporate insolvency, personal bankruptcy, litigation, settlement agreements, and drafting/negotiating commercial agreements.

Desirable: in-house experience, automotive industry experience, knowledge of the Irish legal system.
