Senior Construction Underwriter

Location: LondonPURPOSE OF ROLELawes is working alongside a leading insurer who is seeking a skilled Construction Underwriter to support the continued growth of its mid-market construction portfolio. This role involves underwriting within the construction sector, contributing to a developing portfolio. The successful candidate will play a central role in expanding and managing a diverse book of business.RESPONSIBILITIESUnderwrite CAR and Liability risks across the mid-market segmentDevelop and maintain relationships with a wide broker panel, from national to independent firmsIdentify and convert new business opportunities in line with growth targetsSupport retention and development of existing accounts through strong client engagementConduct broker and client meetings to understand risk and offer tailored underwriting solutionsEnsure all underwriting activity aligns with internal standards and regulatory expectationsDAY-TO-DAYReview and assess risks for accounts typically ranging from £10,000 to £250,000 GWPPrepare detailed underwriting proposals for both new and renewal businessMaintain frequent broker contact to explore pipeline opportunities and offer supportAttend external meetings to strengthen relationships and better understand client needsMonitor the performance of the portfolio, adjusting approach where necessaryShare insights and collaborate with team members to support collective goalsEXPERIENCE2-3+ years of experience in a Construction Underwriting roleStrong background in underwriting both CAR and Construction LiabilityExperience with mid-market business and familiarity with relevant premium levelsProven success working with both national and regional brokersSKILLSSolid technical underwriting and risk assessment capabilitiesCommercially minded with a proactive approach to business developmentStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with a broker-focused mindsetAnalytical thinker with sound judgment and decision-making abilityComfortable working independently and within a collaborative team structureTarget-driven with a commitment to high performance and qualityIf you have the relevant experience or know someone that does please contact me now on
