About the business division

The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland''s water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design. Together, we deliver best-in-class solutions to our clients while offering diverse and technically stimulating opportunities to our people.

Role overview

We are seeking experienced electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (EICA) engineers for our multidisciplinary Water Division. You will work on a wide range of design projects across areas such as:Water treatmentWater distributionWastewater recyclingIndustrial process waterDesalinationIrrigationHydropowerFlood defenceWe cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover. You will provide specialist technical support to colleagues across our global business and have opportunities to engage in diverse, technically challenging work. Our clients include most UK water utility companies, and many other governmental and private organisations in the UK and overseas.

Responsibilities

Providing leadership and mentoring to other electrical engineers, you will:Check and review design documents and provide technical direction to projectsEnsure designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standardsLead the integration of electrical and ICA design with other disciplinesBuild strong relationships with clients and contractors to enhance the company’s reputation and secure further work

Candidate specification

You will be knowledgeable about a wide range of EICA tasks, typically including:Electrical power distribution designControl system designSpecifying local renewable and back-up generation systemsDeveloping plant layoutsCabling and installation designInstrumentation selectionLightning protection assessmentWriting system control strategiesFactory and site acceptance tests of equipment

Essential:Qualified to HND level or higher in electrical, electronic or control engineering or a related disciplineExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishUnderstanding of the importance of prioritising health, safety, and environmental issuesExperience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards

Desirable:Master’s degree in electrical, electronic or control engineering or a related disciplineChartered status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or an equivalent bodyExperience of working in the water and/or wastewater industryGood understanding of pipeline hydraulicsGood understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
