Were looking for a Senior Asset Management Lead II (2 year FTC) to lead the development of the Urenco Melting Facility (UMF), a major strategic programme that will deliver metallic waste treatment, recycling and declassification capabilities for Urenco and support future opportunities across the wider nuclear industry.
Reporting to the UNS Global Director, with a matrix relationship to the Head of UNS, this role will require close collaboration across Urenco Nuclear Stewardship (UNS) and Urenco. The successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders, build strategic partnerships across the UK and Europe, and provide leadership and credibility for the UMF programme and its future commercial development. The UMF will establish Capenhurst as Urencos centre of excellence for metallic treatment and recycling, supporting future requirements across the wider Urenco Group whilst creating potential opportunities within the UK nuclear decommissioning market.

About the Urenco Melting Facility (UMF)
The Urenco Melting Facility (UMF) is a strategic investment that will establish Capenhurst as Urenco’s centre of excellence for metallic waste treatment and recycling. The facility will provide a long-term capability for the declassification, decontamination and recycling of metallic materials arising from decommissioning and waste management activities across Urenco’s sites in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
The UMF will support the full lifecycle management of components and other metallic assets, helping Urenco meet its sustainability, security and waste management obligations while reducing reliance on external treatment routes. The facility is also being developed with the potential to provide metallic treatment services to external customers, including organisations within the wider UK nuclear sector.
As the Senior Asset Management Lead II, you will play a pivotal role in taking the UMF from design and business case development through to Final Investment Decision (FID), while shaping the long-term commercial strategy, regulatory approach and future market opportunities for what is expected to become a unique strategic capability for both Urenco and the wider nuclear industry.
What you’ll do
• Responsible for the commercial capacity and maintaining a steady pipeline of customers to ensure full UMF utilisation plus prioritisation of internal and external strategic customers.
• Support BD (Business Development) in order to develop and deliver commercial partnerships to drive a mutual advantage. Deliver and share insights and intelligence to better inform UNS strategy and drive strategy to enable access to wider opportunities.
• Responsible for supporting and where needed creating the business and commercial strategy cases for UMF working with/creating frameworks and plans, whilst representing this objectively to all levels of stakeholders.
• Development and delivery of the phased delivery of the UMF including live development of the Business Case and Project assurance at each phase.
• Owns the end to end investment pathway, including Define assurance, risk reduction, optioneering decisions and readiness for FID (Final Investment Decision).
• Ensures project delivery strategy aligns with regulatory consent timelines,
• Define and identify medium and long-term strategic goals for commercial development in projects ensuring appropriate and robust stakeholder engagement.
• Accountable for development, integration and defence of UMF Business Cases through Executive and Capex governance, including formal responses to challenge.
• Ensures business cases incorporate regulatory strategy, safety case maturity, transport/logistics risk and international operating considerations.
• Alignment of stakeholders to ensure project success at each phase, taking into consideration R&D (Research and Development) and external customer requirements as well as internal requirements (includes Urenco Almelo, Gronau and Eunice).
• Work closely with internal senior leadership team and strategic partners around global Urenco locations to exchange best practice, innovation, creativity and ensure to achieve business objectives, which includes internal volume assessment, logistical and regulatory needs.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
• Strong knowledge of the UK nuclear industry with a focus on Decommissioning and Waste Management, global nuclear industry knowledge would be a plus
• Existing network within the UK nuclear industry and ability to quickly commercialise and attract customers through credibility and business acumen
• Proven experience preparing and defending complex capital investment cases through FID or equivalent investment decision points in regulated environments.
• Experience operating within international or cross border nuclear, waste or industrial contexts, including matrix governance and diverse regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to operate as a credible senior representative with regulators, customers and partners without formal line authority.
• Management of stakeholders at the executive and Board level including ability to work with engineering, commercial, procurement, construction and project delivery stakeholders
• Building collaboration/partnership with other organisations
• Business development and a pipeline approach to ensure commercial success and full utilisation of capacity once operational
• Understanding of waste and decommissioning waste management safety, licensing and logistics on a nuclear licensed site, a focus on waste management and recycling for metals would be a plus
• Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements for nuclear metals treatment and recycling
• Regulatory interactions with Environment Agency, Office of nuclear Regulation, export controls, transport etc.
• Strong understanding of nuclear transport regulations, export control considerations and logistics risks, including their impact on safety case, licensing and commercial viability.
• Ability to assess and manage first of a kind regulatory and operational risk associated with novel nuclear waste treatment capabilities.
• Awareness of international safeguards, security and material movement

Security vetting
Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
