Senior Advisor, Participation with Lived Experience (PPLE)
– Lumos is seeking a Senior Advisor to lead safe and meaningful engagement of children, young people, families and caregivers. This role crosses teams to mainstream PPLE across the organisation, strengthens internal capacity and advances innovative, transferrable approaches to participation. The post-holder will ensure people with lived experience are meaningfully involved in national, regional and global advocacy, campaigning and within Lumos’ internal governance.Lumos is an international children’s charity founded in 2005 to end the harmful practice of institutionalisation. Lead the implementation of Lumos’ PPLE Strategy in partnership with people with lived experience, PPLE Focal Points in Lumos’ four country offices, and other key colleagues.Provide supervision, coordination and capacity-building to the PPLE team across country offices, setting objectives, deliverables and KPIs to achieve ambitious results.Ensure PPLE is embedded as a cross-cutting priority in all projects and programmes; strengthen internal capacity and approaches to meaningful participation of children, youth, parents and caregivers.Develop annual strategic plans for PPLE (including 2026) and align with the plans of other Programmes teams.Coordinate engagement between PPLE Focal Points and organisational leadership; develop country programme PPLE strategies aligned with Lumos’ strategy (2024–7).Manage the PPLE budget, monitor progress, and oversee potential future grants and programmes.Collaborate with Global Advocacy, Communications and Fundraising to ensure lived experiences are represented in campaigns and policy work; cultivate relationships with stakeholders in care reform and related sectors.Work with safeguarding colleagues as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the PPLE workstream to ensure safe, ethical PPLE and data protection compliance.Contribute to fundraising and proposal development; support donor reporting and stakeholder communications.Plan and deliver external and internal participation events at national, regional or international levels in collaboration with relevant teams.Promote meaningful involvement of young people in Lumos’ governance and in line with strategy 2024–27 and the PPLE Strategy; lead coordination of Lumos Global Youth Advisory Board.Develop training and capacity-building for Lumos teams, including ELT, to promote a mainstreamed PPLE approach.Represent PPLE at senior levels internally and externally as needed.Requirements
Provide technical leadership on PPLE and oversee implementation of Lumos’ new PPLE Strategy; work with lived experience partners, PPLE Focal Points and staff in Lumos country offices and external partners.Strengthen internal capacity for meaningful participation of children, youth, parents and caregivers; embed participation across programmes.Develop and implement a 2026 strategic plan for PPLE; ensure alignment with other teams’ plans and strategies.Oversee supervision and capacity-building of the PPLE team; set objectives, deliverables and KPIs; monitor progress.Establish coordination between PPLE Focal Points and organisational leadership.Lead development of country programme PPLE strategies in line with Lumos’ strategy 2024–2027.Manage the PPLE budget and ensure high-quality deliverables; manage future grants as priorities allow.Collaborate with Fundraising and Programme teams to embed participation in all project proposals; engage People with Lived Experience in proposal development where appropriate.Produce high-quality reports for internal and external audiences, including donors.Represent PPLE at senior levels; build relationships with stakeholders in care reform and related sectors.Oversee training and capacity-building of people with lived experience to participate in care reform initiatives and decisions affecting their lives.Work with advocacy and communications to ensure lived experience representation in regional and global campaigns, ensuring non-tokenistic inclusion.Coordinate planning and delivery of participation events at national, regional or international levels with relevant teams.Promote active and meaningful involvement of young people in all areas of Lumos’ work, including governance; coordinate a Lumos Global Youth Advisory Board.Lead development of training and capacity-building across Lumos to mainstream PPLE; act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the participation area, ensuring systems meet safeguarding and data protection requirements.Safeguarding and Equality
