Salary: £80,000 – £90,000 per annum, dependent on experience
The Company
Our client is an established international energy business, active in the trading, generation and supply of electricity and gas. Operating from a London base as part of a wider global group, the business plays a key role in supporting international commodities and energy trading activity, within a well-regulated and highly professional operating environment.
The Role
The Senior Accountant will support the finance team in driving accurate reporting, efficient processes and strong financial controls across the UK entities of the business. The role covers a broad remit spanning statutory and group reporting, treasury, tax and regulatory returns, with regular exposure to banks, regulators and other external stakeholders.
This is a hands-on finance role suited to someone who enjoys variety and wants to build their experience within a collaborative, inclusive team that values diverse perspectives and works closely together to achieve shared goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare business and financial results reporting (IFRS and performance view)
• Process sales and purchase invoices on a monthly basis, ensuring suppliers are paid on time
• Work within a controlled environment, ensuring finance processes are carried out correctly
• Undertake multi-currency bank reconciliations
• Support the finance team in managing receivables and following up on overdue amounts with customers
• Support the management of statutory and group reporting for UK companies
• Assist with the annual audit of all UK companies, including responding to audit requests, providing information for sampling, and playing a key role in complex external and internal audit requirements
• Liaise with external stakeholders such as banks and regulatory bodies
• Help ensure financial controls are upheld, including balance sheet integrity, reconciliation of performance reporting versus IFRS values, and other existing controls
• Assist with tax reporting requirements, including preparation of VAT returns
• Support treasury and liquidity management, including management of collateral and other forms of guarantee
• Prepare regulatory returns and respond to requests for information from relevant UK authorities
• Manage intercompany service level agreements
• Support and train junior members of the team
• Undertake other ad hoc finance-related tasks as required
About You
• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline; CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualification preferred
• Strong knowledge of accounting, controlling, budgeting, treasury and IFRS, along with UK reporting requirements
• Prior experience in commodities or energy trading is advantageous but not essential
• Confident user of MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, with strong analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
