Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young person in Leominster.
The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs and will be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs. You will create a calm, positive and supportive environment where the learner can build confidence, develop their skills and re-engage with education.
Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The role may involve:
Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to a secondary-aged learner.
Supporting the learner with their academic development across relevant subjects.
Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support.
Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs.
Breaking down complex concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
Supporting literacy, numeracy, study skills and independent learning where appropriate.
Supporting GCSE preparation and exam skills where relevant.
Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence.
Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards learning.
Using the learner''s interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and accessible.
Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety or challenging behaviour.
Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.
Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner''s education.
Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.
Essential requirements:
Experience working with secondary-aged learners.
Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.
Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education is desirable.
Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Reliable and consistent approach to work.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
