SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School

Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
Start: Immediately after October Half Term
Full Time | Monday-Friday | 5 Days Per Week
Primary School - -95100 per day

Simply Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Clacton-on-Sea to recruit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately after the October half term.

This is a full-time position working five days per week, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including children who may display challenging behaviour. Previous experience supporting children with behavioural needs is essential, whether gained within a mainstream school, SEND setting, alternative provision or another relevant education and training environment.



The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and other support staff to ensure pupils with additional needs are able to access learning, develop their independence and make positive academic, social and emotional progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.

  • Supporting children who display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.

  • Using positive behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Supporting pupils with needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH and communication difficulties.

  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and develop positive coping strategies.

  • Supporting children to access classroom activities and adapting resources where required.

  • Following individual education plans, behaviour plans and support strategies.

  • Delivering targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCO.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.

  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and other less structured parts of the school day.

  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers and the SENCO.

  • Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries while building positive relationships with pupils.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.

  • Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging classroom environment.



What We''re Looking For

The successful candidate will have previous experience working with children who have additional needs and challenging behaviour. You should be patient, resilient, compassionate and confident managing difficult situations calmly and consistently.

Previous experience within education and training, SEND, SEMH or alternative provision would be highly beneficial. A strong understanding of behaviour management, emotional regulation and the different ways SEND can affect a child''s learning and behaviour is also desirable.
