Long Term Futures is recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mainstream primary school in the Sherwood area of Nottingham from September 2026.
This role will focus on supporting pupils across KS1 and KS2 with Special Educational Needs, both within the classroom and through targeted 1:1 and small-group support. The school is specifically looking for someone who already has practical experience working with children with SEND and understands how to adapt their approach to meet individual needs.
You will be joining an experienced team where consistency, patience and strong relationships are central to helping pupils engage successfully with school.
About the Role
Working closely with class teachers, the SENCo and wider support team, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND across KS1 and KS2
* Support children with needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties and SEMH
* Follow strategies outlined within EHCPs and individual support plans
* Adapt classroom activities and resources to make learning accessible
* Deliver targeted academic, communication and social interventions
* Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
* Use clear routines, boundaries and positive reinforcement to encourage engagement
* Help pupils develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
* Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and the SENCo
* Work collaboratively with school staff and external professionals where required
What We''re Looking For
* Previous experience supporting children with SEND - essential
* Experience working within a primary school, specialist provision or similar educational setting
* Practical understanding of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH or Speech & Language difficulties
* Confident providing both 1:1 and small-group support
* Experience working with EHCPs or individual support plans is desirable
* Strong behaviour management and communication skills
* Calm and consistent when supporting children who may become dysregulated
* Proactive, resilient and able to use initiative
* Genuine commitment to helping children with additional needs make progress
