About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our supportive school community in Sheffield from September 2026. This role involves working closely with students who have a range of additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum and reach their full potential in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and adapting resources to meet individual needs
- Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCO
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Support students with personal care where required
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (in a school or similar setting)
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience supporting students with autism or behavioural needs
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Training in Team Teach, Makaton, or similar interventions
