SEND Learning and Care Assistant
Supporting Children and Young People Aged 4–18
We are seeking a caring, committed, and enthusiastic SEND Learning and Care Assistant to join our team, supporting children and young people aged 4–18 years with complex and multiple learning difficulties.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and providing high-quality care and learning support for pupils with a wide range of additional needs.
The Role
As a SEND Learning and Care Assistant, you will support pupils with:
- Complex and multiple learning difficulties (CMLD)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Physical disabilities
- Sensory needs
You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families to ensure each child is supported academically, emotionally, and physically in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
- Assist with learning activities, adapting tasks to ensure accessibility and engagement
- Support pupils with communication, including the use of AAC, PECS, or visual supports
- Provide personal care where required, including mobility support and hygiene needs
- Support pupils with physical and sensory needs, including specialist equipment
- Encourage independence, confidence, and life skills development
- Help manage behaviour positively using consistent and supportive strategies
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
- Ensure safeguarding, health, and safety procedures are always followed
- Contribute to individual education and care plans (EHCP targets)
