SEND Academic Mentor – English, Maths & Drama

£20–£25 per hour | Part-Time | Term-Time Only

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a creative, enthusiastic and experienced Academic Mentor to provide personalised 1:1 support to a young person. Tuition will initially take place within the young person's home, with the successful candidate continuing to support them as they transition into college in January 2027, ensuring consistency, familiarity and a positive transition into their new learning environment.

The role involves delivering English, Maths and Drama/Acting, combining academic learning with confidence-building, engagement and preparation for college.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging 1:1 English, Maths and Drama/Acting sessions.

• Plan and adapt lessons to individual learning needs and interests.

• Build confidence, independence and positive engagement with education.

• Support a gradual transition from home-based learning into college.

• Develop a positive, trusting relationship with the learner.

• Complete weekly progress reports.

• Work collaboratively with families and relevant professionals.

Essential Requirements

• Experience tutoring or teaching English and Maths.

• Experience or a strong interest in Drama, Acting or Performing Arts.

• Experience supporting young people with SEND, SEMH or barriers to education.

• Creative, patient and relationship-led approach.

• Strong communication, organisation and safeguarding awareness.

• Willingness to continue supporting the learner within college.
