About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive SEND school in IG8. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them develop both academically and personally. You will work closely with class teachers and the wider support team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of needs, helping to create a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment. You will play an important role in supporting pupils throughout the school day, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs and helping them access learning and participate fully in school life.

The role will involve supporting pupils with a range of SEND, including ASD, SEMH, SLD, and PMLD. You will help pupils develop their communication, social, emotional, and learning skills while encouraging positive behaviour and greater independence. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring, and committed to making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learning in the classroom, working with individuals and small groups
  • Provide targeted one-to-one support based on individual pupil needs
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson preparation and classroom organisation
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, SEMH, SLD, and PMLD
  • Promote positive behaviour and support pupils' social and emotional development
  • Encourage pupils to develop their communication, confidence, and independence
  • Help create a stimulating, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support pupils during playtimes, lunchtime, and school activities as required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable
  • A caring, patient, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and understand individual needs
  • Relevant qualifications, such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications, are desirable but not essential
  • Needs to have DBS on Update Service or be willing to apply
