We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Ware, Hertfordshire (SG12), supporting students aged 11–16 with Moderate Learning Difficulties/Disabilities (MLD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a nurturing and inclusive environment, supporting students with their academic, social, emotional and personal development.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored, individualised support that enables students to access learning, develop their independence and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with MLD and ASD.
• Support students to access classroom learning and complete activities.
• Adapt and explain learning tasks to meet individual needs and abilities.
• Support students with communication, social and emotional development.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, independence and life skills.
• Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual learning plans.
• Support positive behaviour and help maintain a calm, structured learning environment.
• Use praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement to promote engagement.
• Assist with practical, sensory and hands-on learning activities.
• Monitor and report on students'' progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
• Work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide consistent support.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and external professionals where appropriate.
• Promote inclusion, safeguarding and positive outcomes for every student.

About You

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience supporting students with ASD and/or Moderate Learning Difficulties is desirable.
• A patient, calm, resilient and compassionate approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
• An understanding of how to support students with different learning and communication needs.
• The ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting challenging behaviour.
• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students and staff.
• A genuine commitment to helping young people develop their confidence and independence.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
• A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of SEND.
