SEN Teaching Assistant – The role

• Islington, North London
• Primary school
• Long-term, full-time role
• 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
• £99 – £110 per day
• ASAP start
• Long-term placement

SEN Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
• Support children with ASD and SEMH needs.
• Assist with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Support positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
• Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs.
• Create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence and social development.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and the wider school team.

SEN Teaching Assistant - About You

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have:

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in a primary school setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or SEMH needs.
• A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
• Confidence supporting emotional regulation and behaviour.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with teachers and the SENCO.
• The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• A flexible and consistent approach when supporting children with additional needs.
• A genuine passion for supporting children’s development, wellbeing and progress.
