About the role and school

Teach Plus are currently working with a supportive primary school in Tower Hamlets who are looking to appoint a committed SEN Teaching Assistant for an ASAP start.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated support to pupils with additional needs, helping them to engage with learning and make positive academic, social and emotional progress.

The school has a strong focus on inclusive education and is looking for a proactive SEN Teaching Assistant who can work confidently alongside teachers and other support staff.

You may be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, within small groups or as part of the wider classroom team. The ability to build positive relationships and remain calm and consistent is particularly important.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support.
• Help pupils access learning and participate in classroom activities.
• Support pupils with communication and social development.
• Promote independence and confidence.
• Implement individual learning and behaviour strategies.
• Assist pupils who may require additional behavioural or emotional support.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
• Support differentiation and adapted classroom activities.
• Monitor and communicate pupil progress to teaching staff.
• Follow school safeguarding and SEND procedures.

Qualifications/Experience

• Previous UK school experience is essential.
• Previous SEN experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs is advantageous.
• Strong classroom and behaviour-support skills.
• Patient, calm and consistent approach.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
• Reliable and professional approach.
• Valid DBS on the Update Service is desirable.
