The Role:
As a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting a student with SEMH needs, ensuring they are able to engage with the curriculum and access learning in a way that suits their individual needs. You will work closely with the student, providing emotional support, promoting positive behaviours, and helping them to develop key social and emotional skills to thrive both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support for a student with SEMH needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Assist with managing behaviour and implementing strategies to promote positive engagement in learning.
- Foster a nurturing and supportive environment, helping to develop the studentandrsquo;s emotional resilience and social skills.
- Work alongside the class teacher to adapt and differentiate learning materials to meet the needs of the student.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo.
- Assist with the implementation of individual learning plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans.
- Support the student during break times and other unstructured periods, ensuring their well-being.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay up to date with best practices in supporting SEMH needs.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience working with children with SEMH or additional learning needs is preferred, but not essential.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students with varying needs.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential.
