This welcoming special school supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs, and this role will specifically involve working within their Sensory cohort, supporting children with sensory processing and sensory-seeking behaviours. Teaching Assistants here are valued as key partners to the teaching staff andndash; helping students build independence, confidence, and essential life skills.
Youandrsquo;ll support either individual pupils or small groups to access a tailored, practical, and engaging curriculum. Students at the school may present with a variety of learning and communication needs, and at times, may display behaviours that challenge andndash; making your role all the more vital in promoting consistency, calm, and progress.
Weandrsquo;re Looking for Someone Who:
- Has previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a supportive role with children, particularly those with SEND.
- Understands the challenges associated with sensory, communication, and cognitive needs.
- Approaches each day with empathy, creativity, and a solution-focused mindset.
- Is familiar with trauma-informed approaches and committed to promoting pupil wellbeing.
- Can respond to and help manage challenging behaviours in a positive and constructive manner.
- Is a collaborative team player, passionate about inclusion and continuous improvement.
Key Requirements:
- Confidence working with children and adults alike in an educational setting.
- Basic understanding of child development and learning styles.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices, school policies, and relevant legislation.
- First aid training or willingness to complete this.
- A reflective and proactive attitude towards professional development.
