1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity
Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
Start Date: September 2026
A friendly and supportive primary school in Borehamwood is looking to appoint a caring and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous SEN experience or for individuals passionate about supporting children with additional needs and building a career within education.
About the RoleAs a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a pupil requiring additional support, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially. You will play an important role in creating a positive and inclusive learning experience, working alongside the class teacher and SEN team to ensure the pupil receives the right support throughout the school day.
Main Duties• Deliver dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the pupil’s individual learning and emotional needs
• Adapt classroom activities to help the child fully engage with lessons and routines
• Promote independence, confidence, and positive relationships with peers
• Support behaviour management and emotional wellbeing where needed
• Track progress and share regular feedback with teaching staff
• Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and SEN support strategies
• Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to maintain consistent support and progress
• Take part in wider school life and contribute to a positive school environment
• Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs, ideally within a school setting
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to support both educational progress and personal development
• A good understanding of SEN support strategies and classroom routines
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• A welcoming and inclusive school community
