The Role:

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to a student with additional learning needs, helping them engage with the curriculum and access learning in a way that suits their unique requirements. You will work closely with the student, offering support tailored to their needs, promoting positive behaviour, and helping them build key skills to succeed both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide one-to-one support for a student with special educational needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist in managing behaviour and implementing strategies to encourage positive engagement in learning.
  • Create a nurturing and supportive environment to help develop the studentandrsquo;s confidence, independence, and social skills.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt and differentiate learning resources to meet the studentandrsquo;s individual needs.
  • Monitor the studentandrsquo;s progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo.
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans.
  • Assist the student during unstructured times such as breaks, ensuring their well-being and inclusion.
  • Engage in professional development to stay informed of best practices in supporting SEN learners.

The Ideal Candidate:


  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN is preferred but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people reach their full potential.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and focused in challenging situations.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to supporting students with a range of needs.
  • Relevant qualifications (such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certification) are desirable but not mandatory.
