Sen Teaching Assistant
If you want a role where you can see the difference you make every day, this Year 2 LSA (SEN Support) position at a primary school in Smethwick could be a good fit. It''s a long-term role, and you''d help three children get the most out of their school day, alongside a teacher, a Learning Support Practitioner and another LSA.
It''s a one-form entry primary with a Year 2 class of close to 30 children. You''d join as the second LSA, taking over from a colleague who''s leaving. The school would like someone in post as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
- Support the whole Year 2 class alongside the teacher, Learning Support Practitioner and other LSA
- Share targeted support for three children with the other LSA
- Provide 1:1 support for a bright student with a rare medical condition
- Help a student with ADHD stay settled and engaged
- Communicate with and include a student who''s non-verbal
- Respond calmly to challenging behaviour and keep routines consistent
Requirements
- A relevant qualification for an LSA role
- Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in a school setting.
- Patience and resilience, especially on harder days
- A calm, consistent approach to behaviour
- Warmth and a real interest in getting to know each child
- Willingness to spend time in the classroom as part of the selection process
Two of the three children can show challenging behaviour, so some days will test you. You''ll be working as part of a team, not on your own.
What''s on offer
- Long-term / permanent role, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (32.5 hours per week), term time only
- A settled Year 2 team to join
- Ongoing support from a dedicated Sprint consultant
The school will review profiles and shortlist before meeting anyone. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and to spend time in the classroom, so the school can see how you work with the children.
Why Sprint?
If you''re looking to work as a teacher in a mainstream classroom, providing day-to-day supply cover, we''re probably not the agency for you. But if you''re passionate about supporting students with additional needs and want a long-term role as an SEN Teaching Assistant, where you can build consistency and see the impact of your work every day, that''s exactly what we do.
