Your Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you could provide one-to-one or small-group support, following the class teacher''s guidance and pupils'' individual support plans.

• Break learning tasks into clear steps and reinforce instructions using agreed visual or verbal prompts.
• Support communication, participation and independence during lessons and school routines.
• Help pupils manage transitions and recognise when they need additional reassurance or a planned break.
• Share observations with the teacher and SENCO so support can be adjusted to pupils'' progress.

What We Are Looking For in an SEN Teaching Assistant

• Experience supporting children with SEND in a school, childcare or another relevant setting.
• An SEN Teaching Assistant who is attentive, dependable and comfortable following individual support strategies.
• Clear communication, safeguarding awareness and a willingness to learn the school''s approaches.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one, alongside satisfactory safeguarding checks.
