A small mainstream primary school is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to join its close-knit team. With a warm, welcoming headteacher, excellent staffing, and woodland within its grounds, the school offers a magical, supportive environment where children and staff can flourish.
The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help children with ASD and other additional needs access education through a combination of 1:1 and general classroom support.
1:1 support is shared across the team, helping children feel comfortable with different adults and build trusting relationships with several members of staff.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting communication, emotional regulation and participation
- Adapting activities and explanations to individual learning needs
- Encouraging confidence, independence and social development
- Supporting Numeracy, Literacy and wider classroom learning
- Following individual programmes set by specialists, including Speech and Language Therapists
- Working closely with teachers and fellow TAs to nurture each child''s development

Ideal Candidate - SEN Teaching Assistant
- Valid driving licence and own car essential: the school cannot be reached by public transport
- Patient, empathetic and genuinely motivated to support children with additional needs
- Understanding of Autism highly advantageous
- School support, care, support work or other relevant experience welcomed
- Understanding of teaching methods and how children learn beneficial
- Recent Psychology or related graduates encouraged to apply
