The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils with needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD, physical disabilities, and speech and communication difficulties.

Every pupil is different, and your approach will be tailored around their individual needs and EHCP outcomes. Depending on the pupils you are supporting, your responsibilities may include:

• Delivering 1:1, small-group, and classroom support
• Adapting learning activities to different abilities and communication styles
• Supporting pupils with SEMH and emotional regulation
• Using sensory, visual, and alternative communication strategies
• Helping pupils develop independence and essential life skills
• Supporting pupils with physical and complex learning needs where required
• Working alongside teachers and specialist professionals to monitor progress

Adaptability is particularly important within this SEN Teaching Assistant role. Some pupils may need support managing their emotions and behaviour, while others with SLD or PMLD may require highly personalised sensory, communication, and developmental support.
