SEN Teaching Assistant – Part-Time and Full-Time Supply Cover

Location: Beckfoot Phoenix Primary Special School, Hazelbeck School

Contract: Part-time and full-time opportunities available

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join our specialist schools within the Beckfoot Trust. Beckfoot Phoenix Primary Special School and Hazelbeck School are vibrant and inclusive settings committed to creating an environment where every pupil can thrive.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils with additional needs, supporting them to access learning and develop both academically and socially. You will play a key role in implementing tailored support strategies, working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and families to ensure each child receives the support they need.

A key aspect of this role is removing barriers to learning through targeted interventions, adapting resources, and providing consistent one-to-one or small group support. You will also support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, helping them to build confidence, independence, and positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs and learning styles
  • Support the implementation of personalised learning plans and targeted interventions
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using appropriate strategies
  • Assist pupils in developing social, communication, and life skills
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and well-being
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Act as a positive role model, building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support with classroom organisation and general duties as required

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs)
  • Understanding of EHCPs and individual support strategies
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, consistent approach
  • Ability to adapt and respond to individual pupil needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
