KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Location: Birmingham, B29
  • Weekly Pay: -500525
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract: Long-Term, Temp-to-Perm

Long Term Futures are seeking an experienced and compassionate KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the B29 area of Birmingham.

This is a full-time role supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 with Autism (ASD), ADHD and complex additional needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access learning, develop independence and manage their emotional and behavioural needs.

The successful candidate will have strong SEN experience and be confident adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of pupils within a busy primary classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group SEN support across KS1
  • Support pupils with ASD, ADHD and complex additional needs
  • Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Use structured routines, visual aids and sensory strategies where appropriate
  • Support communication, social interaction and engagement with learning
  • Recognise potential triggers and use appropriate de-escalation strategies
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships
  • Work towards individual learning targets and EHCP outcomes
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team

What the School is Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN within a primary or specialist setting
  • Experience working with pupils with ASD, ADHD and complex needs
  • Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Experience supporting pupils within KS1
  • Good understanding of behavioural and emotional regulation strategies
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, visual timetables and Now & Next boards would be beneficial
  • Ability to adapt learning activities to suit different needs and abilities
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Available to start ASAP
