SEN Teaching Assistant KS4
SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT KS4 -B65
Smile Education are currently looking for an experienced and highly resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support a KS4 pupil within a specialist SEN setting in the B65 area. (Long term position)
This is a challenging but incredibly rewarding opportunity for the right person. We are looking for someone with a strong personality, excellent behaviour management skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people with complex additional needs.
The pupil can present with physical behaviours and may at times become disengaged from learning or reluctant to remain in the classroom.
The successful candidate will need to be confident, calm and consistent, with the ability to build a strong relationship with the pupil and encourage them to engage safely and positively with learning.
THE ROLE
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS4 pupil with additional needs.
- Support the pupil to access lessons and the wider school environment.
- Encourage engagement with learning, even when the pupil is reluctant to participate.
- Respond calmly and appropriately when the pupil becomes dysregulated or wants to leave the classroom.
- Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Build a strong, trusting and consistent relationship with the pupil.
- Support emotional regulation and help the pupil develop positive coping strategies.
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive routines.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.
- Follow individual support plans and behaviour strategies.
- Support the pupil''s academic, social and emotional development.
- Maintain a calm and professional approach during challenging situations.
This role requires someone with a strong personality who is confident working with teenagers and experienced in supporting challenging behaviour.
- Have previous experience working with young people with SEN.
- Have experience supporting KS4 pupils or teenagers.
- Have experience supporting pupils who display challenging or physical behaviour.
- Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- Be confident, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Have a positive and engaging personality.
- Be able to build genuine relationships with young people who may initially be reluctant to engage.
- Be patient, consistent and emotionally resilient.
- Be creative and adaptable when encouraging engagement with learning.
- Have a genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs.
