Aspire People are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a Leicester-based school with children who exhibit extreme and often aggressive behaviour. This is a challenging yet rewarding role, ideal for candidates who are experienced in managing difficult situations and have a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students with special educational needs.
About the Role:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant in this role, you will be working with students who display severe emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. You will be supporting them throughout their school day, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour, and encouraging positive engagement in learning.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Supporting students who demonstrate extreme and sometimes aggressive behaviour
Using de-escalation techniques and, where necessary, restraint (restraint training is highly desirable)
Working closely with the school''s behaviour management team to implement strategies that promote emotional regulation and safe behaviour
Supporting students both academically and socially to help them feel included and engaged in school life
Building positive, trusting relationships with students to support their personal development and wellbeing
Collaborating with teachers and other staff to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment
Requirements:
Previous experience working in a UK school, ideally in a SEN or SEMH role
Experience supporting children with extreme or aggressive behaviour
Restraint training (Team-Teach or equivalent) is highly desirable
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to managing challenging behaviour
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
A proactive and resilient attitude towards supporting students with complex needs
