Purpose of the Role
To support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in accessing learning, developing independence, and achieving their individual educational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEN.
- Assist in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Support pupils with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
- Encourage pupil engagement, participation, and independence.
- Monitor and record pupil progress and report observations to teachers and SENCO.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
- Support pupils during classroom activities, transitions, breaktimes, and educational visits.
- Assist with personal care and medical needs where required.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and pupil review meetings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with safeguarding policies.

Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and supportive approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare.
- Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Previous experience in a SEN school or mainstream SEN setting.
- Knowledge of EHCP processes and SEN interventions.
- Training in Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, or equivalent SEN-related programmes.
- First Aid and Safeguarding training.
