Are you an experienced SEN Teacher with a strong background supporting children and young people with Autism and complex communication needs?
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher to join a specialist school setting in North London. The successful candidate will have proven experience working with autistic pupils who are non-verbal or have significant communication difficulties.
The Role:
As an SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with a range of special educational needs.
You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and other professionals to create a safe, supportive and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Support pupils with Autism and complex learning needs.
- Work confidently with non-verbal pupils and pupils with significant communication difficulties.
- Use appropriate communication strategies and visual supports to promote engagement and independence.
- Develop positive relationships with pupils and understand their individual needs and behaviours.
- Differentiate the curriculum to ensure all pupils can access learning.
- Support pupils'' social, emotional and academic development.
- Work collaboratively with LSAs, teaching assistants, therapists and senior staff.
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to individual education plans and reviews.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Proven experience working with children or young people with Autism.
- Specific experience working with non-verbal pupils is essential.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex communication needs.
- A good understanding of Autism and associated learning needs.
- Experience using visual communication, PECS, symbols or other alternative communication methods would be advantageous.
- A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
