We are currently recruiting for a caring, dedicated, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in St Helens. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to thrive both academically and socially in a nurturing learning environment.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, working closely with teachers and the SENCO to ensure every child reaches their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Assisting children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, learning difficulties, and other additional needs.
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum through differentiated learning activities.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the class teacher.
  • Creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.


The Ideal Candidate

We''re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in a school, care, or community setting.
  • A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in a busy classroom environment.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification are desirable but not essential. We also welcome applications from graduates, support workers, youth workers, and those looking to build a career in education.
