SEN Support Assistant - SEMH
SEN Support Assistant - SEMH
Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
-90115 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunities
Some pupils won''t remember every lesson. They will remember the adult who didn''t give up on them.
We''re looking for a calm, resilient and genuinely caring SEN Support Assistant to work within a specialist education setting in the Great Yarmouth area.
This isn''t a role where success is always measured by a finished worksheet.
Sometimes success is a young person choosing to stay in the classroom. Trusting you enough to ask for help. Managing a difficult moment differently. Or simply having a better day than yesterday.
If that sounds like the kind of progress you''d be proud to be part of, this could be a brilliant role for you.
What does the role involve?
As an SEN Support Assistant, you''ll work closely with pupils who require additional support with their learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement with education.
You may be supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated additional needs.
Your day could include:
- Providing individual and small-group classroom support
- Helping pupils engage with learning
- Building consistent, positive and appropriate relationships
- Supporting emotional regulation
- Using calm and positive approaches to behaviour
- Recognising triggers and helping to de-escalate challenging situations
- Working alongside teachers and specialist support colleagues
- Celebrating progress that may look different for every pupil
Who could be a great fit?
Previous experience within SEN education, SEMH, alternative provision or specialist schools would be valuable, but we''re also interested in people whose experience comes from other relevant backgrounds.
You might have worked in:
- Youth work
- Residential childcare
- SEND support
- Mental health support
- Behaviour mentoring
- Sports coaching
- Care or support work
What matters is that you understand that behaviour is often communication, can remain calm when a young person is struggling and are able to build relationships without taking difficult moments personally.
You''ll need patience, consistency, good boundaries and a healthy sense of humour.
Why consider specialist education?
For the right person, specialist education can be incredibly rewarding.
You have the opportunity to really get to know the pupils you support, understand what helps them learn and become a consistent adult in their school day.
We''ll support you throughout the placement, from your initial registration and compliance through to settling into your new role.
If you''re already an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or SEN Support Assistant, or you have transferable experience and feel ready to move into education, we''d be very happy to have a conversation.
Could you be the person a young person learns to trust?
If you''re looking for an SEN Support Assistant role in Great Yarmouth and want your working day to mean something, send us your CV.
Click Apply today and we''ll contact you to talk through the role, your experience and whether this specialist setting could be the right next move for you.
