We are seeking to appoint a skilled and adaptable Science Teacher

The successful candidate will plan and deliver Science teaching tailored to adult learners with a range of special educational needs, adapting content, pace, and approach to suit individual learning profiles and, where applicable, EHCP outcomes. Alongside Science, there is scope for the postholder to also deliver Functional Skills English and/or Maths sessions, depending on experience and college timetabling needs-this is a valuable but not essential part of the role, and we welcome applicants who can offer either or both.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver Science sessions for adult learners with SEN, adapted to a range of ability levels and learning styles
  • Support learners working towards relevant accreditation (e.g. Entry Level Certificates, Unit Award Scheme, or equivalent), where applicable
  • Where required, deliver Functional Skills English and/or Maths sessions at Entry Level to Level 2
  • Assess learners'' starting points and track progress against individual learning plans and, where relevant, EHCP outcomes
  • Differentiate teaching materials and approaches to support learners with a wide range of needs, including learning, communication, and behavioural differences
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and progress records in line with College and funding body requirements
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, other subject teachers, and external professionals involved in learners'' care and education
  • Uphold the College''s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

Person Specification

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Science or a closely related subject
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, QTLS, PGCE, or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards one
  • Experience teaching Science to adult learners with SEN, ideally within a college or specialist setting
  • A working knowledge of Functional Skills English and/or Maths frameworks is desirable, but not essential
  • Patience, resilience, and a genuinely learner-centred approach to teaching
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners
