Salary: -19,399 - -20,447

Salary depends on experience and qualifications. Higher rates apply to candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training, such as a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification. Pay follows school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

About the Role:

Help young people feel secure, included and ready to learn as a Learning and Support Assistant in a specialist school serving the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire area. Supporting learners with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, you will build trusting relationships that encourage confidence, independence and positive routines.

Working alongside teachers, you will support classroom learning, small groups and individual sessions, contribute to education and behaviour plans, and record progress. You will also collaborate with families, therapists and psychologists to help learners overcome barriers to learning.

This role suits someone calm, adaptable and committed to recognising small steps forward. A supportive team and ongoing training will help you develop your SEMH practice.

Requirements:

• GCSE grade C or Level 2 equivalents in English and maths, including Functional Skills.
  
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  
• An understanding of barriers to learning and the ability to build positive relationships with appropriate boundaries.
  
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting learners welfare.
  
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and relevant safer recruitment checks.
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Support a designated group of learners with SEMH needs in class, small groups and one-to-one sessions.
  
• Help develop and follow individual education plans, behaviour plans and risk assessments.
  
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and participation.
  
• Record progress and share observations with teachers and specialists.
  
• Work with families and professionals, including through home visits where appropriate.
