Academics Ltd is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded primary school in Devizes on an immediate and long-term basis. The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated one-to-one support to a child with special educational needs, helping them to engage positively with their learning and develop their confidence, emotional wellbeing and independence.

The child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which outlines specific targets, outcomes and strategies to support their individual needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SEMHCo and wider school team to implement appropriate strategies and provide consistent support throughout the school day.

This role would be particularly valuable for individuals considering future careers within psychology, counselling, therapy, education, mental health or special educational needs, as you will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience supporting a child with SEMH needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a child with SEMH and additional learning needs.
• Support the child''s emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement with learning.
• Develop a positive and trusting relationship with the child.
• Help the child overcome barriers to learning and develop greater independence.
• Follow the strategies and targets outlined within the child''s EHCP.
• Support the child with their academic, social and emotional development.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SEMHCo to provide consistent and effective support.
• Encourage positive behaviour and help the child develop appropriate strategies for managing emotions and challenges.
• Support the child to engage in classroom activities and the wider school environment.
• Observe the child''s progress and communicate relevant information to teachers and other professionals.
• Work collaboratively with external professionals and specialists where appropriate.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
• Ensure the safety, welfare and wellbeing of the child at all times.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain high standards of professional conduct.

Key Requirements

• A genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH and additional needs.
• A caring, patient and empathetic approach.
• The ability to build a positive and trusting relationship with a child.
• Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
• Experience supporting children with Autism would be highly beneficial.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to remain calm, patient and consistent when supporting challenging situations.
• A willingness to learn and develop specialist knowledge and skills.
• The ability to work closely and effectively as part of a wider professional team.
• A commitment to supporting the child''s long-term development and wellbeing.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children''s welfare.
