Long Term Futures are recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. This full-time role will focus on supporting the child both in lessons and with emotional regulation throughout the school day.
The successful candidate will need to offer consistency, patience and calm guidance, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach to help the child engage positively in learning and develop emotional resilience.
The Role:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with SEMH needs
- Support the pupil''s learning in lessons, adapting tasks where needed
- Help with emotional regulation using agreed strategies and interventions
- Build a consistent, trusted relationship to promote emotional safety
- Encourage participation, independence and positive behaviour
- Recognise signs of dysregulation and intervene calmly and effectively
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate:
- Level 2/3 TA qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Skilled in trauma-informed practice and regulation strategies
- Calm, emotionally resilient and confident in a 1:1 setting
- Flexible and responsive to individual needs
- Committed to inclusion, communication and teamwork
