Location: Cheltenham
Salary: £150 - £300 per day (depending on experience and responsibilities)
Start Date: Flexible - September 2026
About the Role
Connex Education is seeking dedicated, resilient and passionate SEMH Teachers to work within specialist educational settings in Cheltenham, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This role offers a range of flexible opportunities, including day-to-day supply, short-term placements and longer-term teaching roles, allowing you to choose the level of commitment that best suits your circumstances.
You will be supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to education, including trauma, anxiety, attachment difficulties and behavioural challenges. Many learners require a highly structured, nurturing, and consistent approach to help them re-engage with learning and build confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual pupil needs when required
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Support pupils with SEMH needs to access learning and achieve progress
- Use positive behaviour support and trauma-informed approaches
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and external professionals
- Track, assess and report on pupil progress where required (long-term roles)
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and independence
- Contribute to a consistent and inclusive approach across the setting
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) preferred, un-qualified teachers welcome to apply
- Experience working with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
- Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches (desirable)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Connex Education
- Right to work in the UK
