SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Thrapston, Northamptonshire

TimePlan Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist alternative education setting in Thrapston.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, complex needs or emotional and behavioural difficulties.



The Role

You will be supporting young people aged 11-16 who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require additional support to engage with learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support.

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs.

  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour.

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.

  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

  • Encouraging engagement and participation in learning.

  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff.

  • Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.

  • Helping create a safe and supportive learning environment.



The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience as a:

  • Learning Support Assistant

  • Teaching Assistant

  • SEMH LSA

  • Behaviour Mentor

  • Learning Mentor

  • Pastoral Support Worker

  • Youth Worker

  • Support Worker

  • Children''s Support Worker

  • Residential Support Worker

Experience working with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN, EBD, complex needs or vulnerable young people is highly desirable.

We will also consider candidates from care, residential, youth work and support work backgrounds who have strong transferable experience.
