SEMH Learning Mentor (Alternative Provision)

Location: Accrington / Hyndburn Area

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time (Monday to Friday)

Daily Rate: -125.89 - -145.89 per day (dependent on experience)

Setting: Small Specialist Secondary Alternative Provision School (SEMH Focus)



About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people''s lives? Tradewind are currently recruiting a resilient and compassionate SEMH Learning Mentor to join a vibrant, highly regarded secondary alternative provision school in the Accrington and Hyndburn area.

The setting supports young people who require something additional or alternative to mainstream education. The students join through various pathways, including permanent exclusions from district mainstream schools, bespoke preventative intervention packages, or short-term medical placements via professional panels.

The School work tirelessly to reinstate their self-confidence and self-belief, striving to re-engage them with their learning through a highly personalised experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Mentoring: Deliver tailored 1-to-1 and small-group mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation, academic progress, and personal growth.

  • Positive Behaviour Management: Utilise therapeutic de-escalation strategies and restorative practices to support students through challenging moments.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to monitor student development and update individual support plans.

  • Building Resilience: Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where disengaged learners feel valued, encouraged, and confident to succeed.



Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour. Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, residential care, or alternative provisions are highly desirable.

  • Skills: Exceptional communication, high emotional resilience, patience, and strong conflict-resolution capabilities.

  • Commitment: Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, starting ASAP.
