SEMH Class Teacher – Primary Curriculum

Are you an SEMH teacher with primary experience looking for a rewarding new opportunity at a local school? This role would suit a QTS teacher who has experience delivering the Primary curriculum and understands how to adapt teaching for pupils who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
A trauma-informed approach is essential. You will need to understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and be able to respond calmly, consistently and compassionately, while still maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.
You will teach a small class, providing a structured and engaging learning environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and make progress academically and personally.
Job Role:
- Teach a small class of pupils with SEMH needs
- Plan and deliver the Primary curriculum
- Adapt lessons to meet individual learning and SEMH needs
- Use a trauma-informed approach to teaching and behaviour
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Establish clear routines, boundaries and expectations
- Manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently
- Support pupils to re-engage with education and develop confidence
- Monitor progress and adapt teaching accordingly
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants and specialist colleagues
- Qualified Teacher Status or relevant teaching experience
- Previous experience teaching the Primary curriculum
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
