Section Engineer
The Opportunity
We’re currently seeking an experienced Freelance Section Engineer to join a major infrastructure scheme near Bridgwater, supporting a large reinforced concrete structures package on one of the UK’s most significant civil engineering projects. This long-term contract runs through to 2029, offering excellent continuity and the opportunity to work on a technically demanding programme of works.
This flagship project is split across multiple delivery sections, creating a fast-paced environment with complex engineering challenges and genuine long-term prospects for freelance engineers looking for stability.
The Project
This phase of works is heavily focused around reinforced concrete structures and associated civils activities, including:
- Large in-situ reinforced concrete pours
- Retaining structures and reinforced bases
- Formwork, falsework and rebar installation
- Deep drainage and associated infrastructure
- Heavy foundations and structural concrete packages
- Associated earthworks and temporary works operations
The Role
As Section Engineer, you’ll take ownership of a designated work area, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing site engineering
- Managing daily site engineering activities
- Supporting and mentoring Site Engineers
- Ensuring quality assurance and ITP compliance
- Coordinating subcontractors and specialist RC teams
- Promoting and maintaining Health & Safety standards
- Attending weekly progress and coordination meetings
- Managing materials and ensuring works are site-ready
About You
We’re looking to speak with experienced Site or Section Engineers who have a strong background delivering reinforced concrete and heavy civils packages. Suitable project experience may include:
- Major infrastructure schemes
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Bridges, tunnels or large structural packages
- Nuclear or energy projects
- Water or wastewater treatment works
- Heavy civil engineering environments
- BASED WITHIN ONE HOUR DRIVE OF THE BRIDGWATER AREA
- A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
- Strong experience delivering RC structures and heavy civils works
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A full UK driving licence
- The right to work in the UK
- £390 per day PAYE (including holiday pay)
- Long-term freelance contract running until 2029
