Secondary School SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) - Portsmouth
Prospero Teaching is looking for a dedicated and experienced Secondary School SENCO to join our client''s school in Portsmouth. This is a temporary position to cover a staff absence, commencing immediately and running until December.
About the Role:
As the SENCO, you will:
- Lead and coordinate the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring their needs are met effectively.
- Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
- Monitor and assess the progress and wellbeing of SEND pupils, adapting interventions to maximise their achievement.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on SEND best practices, promoting an inclusive and supportive school culture.
- Ensure compliance with statutory SEND regulations and maintain accurate records relating to SEND provision.
- Promote positive behaviour and social development among SEND students, fostering resilience and independence.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
- Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant SENCO accreditation (e.g., NASENCo qualification)
- Desirable: Experience in a SENCO or SEND coordination role within a secondary school setting
- Commitment to professional development and knowledge of the latest SEND legislation and best practices
