SCIENCE TEACHER

A fantastic opportunity for a qualified Science Teacher to join a Good Academy in the borough of Newham.

This large academy based in the heart of Newham is currently looking for a qualified, experienced Science Teacher to join their team from September. The successful Head Teacher together with his very forward-thinking Senior Leadership Team are fully focused on achieving the best possible educational outcomes for their pupils. There is a big emphasis on ensuring that pupils achieve their goals by making sure that they are taught by skilled specialist teachers who really know their subjects. Staff are encouraged to plan together, and this will involve both teaching and support staff affiliated with each department. There are high expectations of teaching staff to ensure that the lessons they are delivering are of a good standard, as the more engaging the lesson, the more likely the children will behave well.

The school is a short walk from London Underground and Elizabeth Line stations.

The Role

This school are looking for a qualified, experienced Science Teacher to join their team from September. You will be joining not only a very successful school, but a fantastic department where the staff work very closely to ensure the children are given the best opportunity to succeed. The Science curriculum is based on broadening students'' future prospects by covering a broad range of scientific concepts which equip students to understand the questions about the mechanics of everyday life, whether or not they choose to pursue Science after finishing their studies. The successful candidate will be required to teach all three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) to KS3 and KS4.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan and teach Science lessons to classes in years 7 to 11 that follow the agreed Departmental schemes of work and Department and Academy teaching guidelines.
  • To keep abreast of the relevant GCSE specifications and examination requirements.
  • To mark and assess pupils'' work in accordance with Department and Academy guidelines.
  • To use class and department assessment data to check the progress of pupils and, where necessary, to plan and implement academic interventions in accordance with Department and Academy practice and policy.
  • To contribute to the Department''s medium and long term planning to improve pupil outcomes.
  • To comply with the procedures and routines of the department or departments within which the teacher''s assigned classes fall.
  • To undertake training and professional development in order to become an increasingly expert teacher.
  • To comply with the Teachers'' Standards.
  • To attend team and staff meetings.
  • To be part of a pastoral team including being a form tutor if so required.
  • To be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and to follow the relevant policies and procedures.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of a caring and stimulating environment for young people.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties within the scope of the post as directed by the Headteacher.

The role is to start in September and will be for the Autumn term in the first instance with the view of being for the full academic year.
