School Caretaker

Location: Sheffield
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week, split shift may be required)
Contract: Permanent, Full Year
Salary: Grade to be confirmed, depending on experience

We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic and proactive Caretaker to join our friendly primary school team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment where children can thrive.

As our Caretaker, you will play a key role in ensuring that our school buildings and grounds are well maintained, secure and fit for purpose, supporting both pupils and staff every day.



Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the school premises, ensuring the site is secure at all times.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and decorating where appropriate.
  • Managing the cleanliness and presentation of the school grounds.
  • Undertaking health and safety checks, including fire safety and building compliance.
  • Monitoring heating, lighting and other building systems.
  • Liaising with contractors and supervising work carried out on site.
  • Setting up rooms and equipment for assemblies, events and school activities.
  • Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring they are addressed promptly.
  • Supporting the school in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.


We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has previous caretaking, site management or maintenance experience (school experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Has practical DIY and maintenance skills.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Is organised, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is flexible, dependable and takes pride in their work.
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive school team.
